DENVER, May 6, 2016 — Vantiv, Inc. (NYSE: VNTV), a leading provider of payment processing services and related technology solutions for merchants and financial institutions of all sizes, announced today that it is supporting two programs operated by the Young Americans Center for Financial Education, which offers award-winning educational programs focused on developing financial literacy for young people in Colorado. The two programs, Young AmeriTowne and International Towne, help students ages 10-15 learn about money management, business, economics and free enterprise in a fun and hands-on way.
“We’re proud to support such a great organization and program that reaches almost half of the school age children in the Colorado. Financial literacy and an understanding of how technology and commerce work are key learnings that will take these children far in life,” said Matt Downs, head of business and channel development, Vantiv Integrated Payments. “Young AmeriTowne is giving the next generation of consumers the life skills they’ll need to be successful.”
Vantiv supplied 70,000 custom-branded credit and debit cards the students use to learn important economic concepts and valuable life skills. Participants are given a simulated paycheck that they deposit into a bank. The money is then loaded onto their Vantiv branded debit or credit cards. They can check their debit or credit card balance in real-time, as well as purchase goods and services at various businesses with the cards.
“The use of ‘real’ debit and credit cards is an essential component of the Young AmeriTowne and International Towne programs for participating students as we firmly believe students learn best with real-life, hands-on experience. Vantiv’s support through the customized debit and credit cards help us advance a core objective to educate children on the wise use of money. It’s essential to keeping our educational programs thriving,” said Richard E. Martinez, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Young Americans Center for Financial Education.
Vantiv employees met with fifth graders recently in Denver to kick off the program. Young AmeriTowne’s mobile program, Young AmeriTowne on the Road, will be teaching fifth graders in the Durango, Colo. area from May 9th through May 20th at Fort Lewis College. Vantiv’s financial support of the program last year will contribute to making the new Durango program possible. Vantiv volunteers will guide students in Durango through the process of successfully running one of nine simulated businesses.
