How do chip cards rate with consumers?
New Worldpay and Socratic data reveals consumers perceptions of chip cards in the United States
Chip cards and the systems that accept them have become more commonplace since the fraud liability shift in October 2015. According to EMVco, EMV chip cards accounted for nearly half of all card present transactions in 2017, compared to just 18 percent in 2016.
With chip card adoption on the rise, Worldpay decided to look deeper into consumers’ experience with the technology. Does chip card usage differ among men and women? Among different generations? Has the technology lived up to consumers’ expectations for ease of use and security in payments? What pain points have they experienced with chip cards?
Worldpay partnered with Socratic Technologies to find out the answers to these questions and others. We conducted an online survey with 516 consumers ages 18+. You can view all the results from the survey by downloading the report below.
