Retailing for Millennials: 8 Do’s and Don’ts – Part 4
In this final installment of the Retailing for Millennials series (read part 1, part 2, part 3), the importance of seamless payments is discussed. Also, Digital Natives explain why shopping on mobile devices should have all the bells and whistles of shopping via their desktops.
7. Paying should be as easy as shopping.
DO: Make payments as quick and easy as possible.
“Perhaps to accomplish the checkout process while I am shopping so that I then just walk out the door and also pay on my phone.” –Male, 21-34
“Maybe scan my items as I picked them up so I would just have to confirm final amount and pay at the checkout.” –Female, 21-34
“Responsive check out, I hate when you have to check out and it goes from responsive to the actual web page.” -Female, 21-34
DON’T: Let the final part of the shopping experience – the payment – be anything less than seamless.
8. The mobile experience should be as good as the desktop experience.
DO: Make shopping on a mobile device feel like shopping on a desktop.
“I would like to be able to have access to the full shop. Sometimes you only get a limited view of certain sites from your mobile device.” –Female, 21-34
“I don't want to download any apps, because I feel a web browser is more than sufficient to convey the kind of information an app can. So, I want more stores to concentrate on their mobile sites, and less on trying to push apps.” – Male, 21-34
DON’T: Leave off relevant information to make the desktop experience fit the mobile experience. Photos, videos, and reviews are important for both.
